Bruce Trail 900k Unsupported
August 9th - 23rd 2024
14 days and 30 minutes.
My pack weight started at 52.6 pounds and lost 2.5 pounds everyday as I went through my nutrition.
I brought everything I needed and filtered all my water on the trail. No pacers and no help, I did this completely on my own and I'm super stoked about it!
Day 1-2
Rained the first day and I had issues with blisters on my feet and chafing in the groin area on the first 20k, not a great start. Day 2 I still suffered with chafing but I used another pair of shorts with no liner and I didn't wear underwear so I can heal. Backpack was heavy but it was manageable.
Day 3 - 12
I had beautiful weather except for one day. I really enjoyed the course and never had an issue to find water. My body was holding up fine the entire time, it really helps to take care of yourself if you don't want any issues. Navigating the course was really easy especially with the Bruce Trail app.
Day 13-14
This is where things got interesting. I ended up doing one last push and pulled an all nighter. I only brought 13 days of nutrition so I ran out on my last day, with no sleep and no fuel ripping the most technical part of the trail was rough. I thought I would be done at roughly 10pm, but I ended up going till 3.45 am. Almost two full nights and close to a 50 hour push. This finish did not come easy! My parents and my wife were at the end waiting for me and it was something I'll never forget.
I'll be honest, I thought I would remember this entire trip really well but it just feels like one long day. It was a crazy experience that changed my life forever.
I just wanted to give a shoutout to the previous course record holder Jamieson Hatt, he took me under his wing and acted like a coach to me. I'm extremely grateful for all the help man!
I lost 20 pounds and I can't feel my feet at the moment, but my heart is full!
Ray Zahab was my coach and he is the one that told me to give this course a shot, grateful I did.
Thank you to my parents and to my wife, this is a team sport and when I hit my low points, I would give them a call and it always gave me a boost!
Life will never be the same.
