This was originally an FKT attempt on a one way run of the Strawberry Line from Cheddar to Yatton. Which is 10. 5 miles.
The male unsupported FKT is held by Tom Abrahams & Steve Wood, they ran as a team in 1hr 12m 34s
The female unsupported FKT is held by Kathy Freeman, who originally set this record, she ran it solo in 1hr 28m 5s.
I completed the one way route unsupported in 1hr 22m 22s. (see watch pic)
So missed the male record by just under 10 minutes.
Since I missed out on the one way record, I then decided to attempt an FKT for the out and back variation of the Strawberry Line. Which would be just over 20miles.
After completing the first leg, I popped into the cafe at Yatton train station and bought a water to top up my own low reserves, then ran straight back to cheddar.
The FKT guidelines state that any support from commercial outlets classes an attempt as 'self-supported'
So this has turned into a male 'self-supported' FKT attempt, out and back on the Strawberry Line.
Elapsed time is what's counts not moving time, so my little cafe trip is included in the FKT.
(3hr 5m 50s)
I was fortune to get a beautiful British summers day on this beautiful old train line, now converted to a cycle path.
I pushed hard most of the way and just over 3hrs for a 21 mile run is decent in my books, so I'm happy with my running on this one.
Will definitely be back at some point for a complete unsupported out and back FKT.
