I left Point Impossible at about 10:15am on Saturday the 27th of March 2021. After running for about 5 minutes I quickly realised that I was going to have to deal with a headwind for the entire day. I thought about aborting the mission but ultimately decided to keep trudging along. Aside from the breeze the weather was really nice. A few drops of rain here and there which help me cool off a little bit.
As far as nutrition goes, I took with me 2 litres of water, 1.5 litres of tailwind, a banana and some jelly beans. This was enough nutrition to last my run as I finished with water, tailwind and jellybeans left over.
The hardest part of the day was the beach section from Point Addis to Red Rocks. A little tip to the next person to attempt this FKT is to time your run on low tide so you get some harder sand to run on. I crossed at high tide so I had to run on really soft sand and deal with the headwind were there is no protection from any trees.
I am disappointed that I didn't go under 4 hours, but it leaves the door wide open for someone else to beat the time.
If anyone does attempt the FKT feel free to ask me any questions as I am a local of the area. I would love to meet you at the finish line and congratulate you!!!
