Ascutney has been my "go to" mountain these last couple of months for training. Dragon's back is 2 weeks away and this run was my last big one before tapering. I had attempted to complete the 5 trails before but decided to cut it short due to heat, lack of water and my ankle. This time the weather was wet but much cooler and there was hardly anyone on the mountain. The rocks were slick and I was being a bit more cautious than normal but I was able to keep a steady, strong pace the entire time. The fatigue did not start until climbing up the Brownsville Trail but that was after the skies opened up and it had been pouring on me for a few hours. With water was deep and rocks and roots slick it take a bit more energy to stay upright. I started out with 2L and two 550 ml water bottles on front. One filled with Untapped Maple Aid. I ate 2 Gomacro bars and 2 Untapped Maple sleeve as well and a handful of dried apple rings. I refilled my bladder at the brook crossing on Windsor using iodine tablets to treat it.
I made a rookie mistake and did not charge my Garmin fully so it died on me right before the 2 mile final descent down Bicentenial. So, I took out my phone and started my timer and then took a photo of myself at the kiosk at the bottom of the trail (time stamped) as well as a screen shot of the phone with time of day (time stamped). I also have a photo of my car clock if needed.
My actually finish time was probably 10 hours and 28 minutes but because of my mess up with my GPS you can round up to 10 hours 29 minutes.
