Yesterday, we opted to do the Mount Ascutney Triple Loop. Our route was up the Future’s Trail, down the Bicentennial Trail, up the Weathersfield Trail, down the Windsor Trail, up the Brownsville Trail, and then down the toll road to the finish. You connect the trails at the bottom by road and other trails. The connection between Bicentennial and Wethersfield Trail is rough. It is on old gravel road, class 4 roads and field. Be sure to know the route before attempting it! For Scott it wasn’t his best day yesterday. The weather was perfect (warm and humid with a light breeze higher up on the mountain), but he's been nursing a right quadricep/knee thing. That made the descents painful. Debbie was strong so she went ahead on the downhills and the goal was to catch up on the ascents. The plan mostly worked, though we got separated on the last climb up the Brownsville Trail. Scott didn’t catch up until the top. There was a lot of debris and washed out areas due to the flooding a few weeks back. Also, many people to navigate being a Sunday. Better off doing this on a weekday!
We carried all our own water and food. Only refilling water using iodine tablets at the brook crossing on the Windsor Trail.
