Using Eric and Nick's route as a guide, Andrea and I completed a Garibaldi lake circumnavigation using the high route, but with some variations.
Our day started at 4:45am which we thought would give us ample time to complete the more difficult sections with daylight. We miscalculated the difficulty in picking efficient lines later in route and relied heavily on gps in the treed areas. While not dangerous, definitely a lot slower going in the dark!
We chose to do Panorama Ridge and Gentian Peak instead of Helm glacier because it traces the lake on a higher and closer route than helm glacier even though it adds both distance and elevation. We did not summit Mount Carr because we needed to optimize daylight and prioritized The Sphinx as the more aesthetic peak. We did summit the Sphinx, but lost time trying to find a more efficient route down, it didn't go so we had to re-route to the route we took up. Another point to note is that we did not summit Mount Price. It was nearing dawn when we arrived at the Clinker Price col so opted to just continue down to the lake.
This is an absolutely stunning route, and well worth the time and preparation required to complete it. Thank you to Pete Croft, the originator of the route, and to Eric and Nick for posting the route and helping us plan for our trip.
There is a lot of time that can be made up to get the female time closer to the male's, looking forward to seeing that happen!
