Started/ended at the Mountain Ave bridge. Slept 4-5 hours each of the two nights in pit toilets (i.e. luxurious slumbering). My friend ran up Keystone with me, which was a morale booster on a bit of a boring run, but then we had a key mishap which cost an hour. Other than that short bit of running with a friend, the rest of the challenge was unsupported. Another highlight was getting several elephant ears at a food truck on Mission and San Xavier. My biggest obstacle was the snow, which was up to 18" deep and required a mile-plus of post-holing on Mica, Wrightson, and Lemmon. It would have been better to pack snowshoes with me, but this did mean that water was plentiful. The second biggest obstacle was one I brought on myself: wearing shoes that were already falling apart at the beginning. Gorilla Tape, please sponsor me.
This route could certainly go a lot quicker. I have much more of a bikepack racing background, and before this I had never done a run more than 30 miles. Made it super fun to constantly be changing from bike to foot, and having so many little goals that break up the monotony. Certainly nicer on the body that way. Also loads of fun just to do and get a full night's sleep each time, I'm sure. Would love to see this route become more popular, as it's such a simple way to explore the Tucson backyard.
