A perfect crisp November day for a through-run of the International Appalachian Trail inside the Monument. Started at Haskell gate and had a great 7 miles along the East Branch. Followed some old logging roads and eventually started up Lunksoos Mtn. I was rewarded with a fine view of Katahdin and Hamlin Peak. It was then a fun, and a bit rugged dip down and then up onto Deasey Mtn. After exploring the old fire tower area it was down the east side of Deasey past an old Warden (or Ranger?) cabin. Barbara then met up with me, and the final run of several miles to the Barnard Mtn trailhead. While not part of the IAT, this little side trail offers a final uphill challenge and great views of Katahdin. After that it was the final mile or two to the car. I was surprised how much water was still available in most of the streams, which would be great in warmer months. This was a first attempt / recon run, so I was not pushing it, and I found some navigation issues to contend with. So, in the future, my attempts will, hopefully, be faster.
