I ran the Birkhead Mountain Trail that is in the GPS at about 11.1 miles. I ended up running 11.41 after going off course for a little bit. There are a couple signs which are nice to make sure you are on the correct route, but I obviously missed a sign. It is well marked, but with this being my first FKT attempt I know I am not as used to trying to navigate at the same time as running. The run went well, but it got up to over 80 degrees, which I was not ready for in early March so my heart rate was much higher than I am used to. I ran alone and unsupported on this route. I did not resupply with food. I did not get any water and there are not any available water stops. All of the water and gels I consumed were from my pack that I started with. I really enjoyed this route and will be back to run it at a later date.
