After some weeks of cold/wet weather, I was grateful for ideal running conditions, minus the mild net headwind.
I've done plenty of cycling from London to Windsor, so the early parts of the run were just about slowly checking off places I knew before. The run was all pretty tame for the first bit, just trying to manage intensity.
The third and fourth hours were pretty dull, some hills to break it up would have been appreciated. Nearly missed the public taps at Shepperton Lock, which would have caused this to be Self-Supported given the lack of obvious other taps later on the route.
By Richmond I knew it was about a half marathon to go and could count down the kilometers. Slight concerns that I only had a litre of water left meant that I would ration the very cheap energy gels (given to be for free by a mate as they were out of date) so to not dehydrate myself.
By Putney I tried leaning against a lamppost to rest while waiting for traffic lights and realised I was pretty dehydrated. 9km to go and still had some water to ration.
Kind of stumbled round the high-rises to Albert Bridge, heat and hydration becoming a bit more of an issue but only 2.5km to go, so battled through to the finish.
Got to Buckingham Palace within the target time, sat down on some steps, then went in search of some much needed food & water.
Nice route, glad I did it, learnt some lessons about planning unsupported runs!
