My husband and I ran this course as a mixed gender team in an unsupported style; we carried all the food and water we needed for the adventure. We did utilize the wonderful public water fountain at the Overlook Park after crossing the dam. Cool water is a beautiful thing.
The loop varied between really rocky trail and hard-packed soil with short short road and sidewalk sections. At times, it was very really busy with a medley of walkers, backpackers, beachgoers and campers despite it being midweek--- I am guessing that Spring Break was a factor.
The weather was quite warm and sunny for us... we also started around 11am and ran through the afternoon. I would not recommend this approach as the second half of the loop had very little shade and contributed to some heat-related stomach and motivation issues.
Overall, this was a sweet loop with great lake views. Next time we visit central Texas, would definitely run again!
