On Saturday 12th April I began the Barnsley Boundary route from Elsecar as this got the major climbs out of the way in the first half. I had planned to meet my husband at 4 places on the route to fill up drinks and food. I hired a gps tracker from tracktrails so that any supporters would be able to follow my location easily. I was running to raise money for Royston Scout group in Barnsley who are fundraising for a new building and had a Justgiving page www,justgiving.com/page/ellyroberts-barnsleyboundary and have so far raised over £1000.
I had a number of runners from the local community planned to run different sections with me. They were an excellent support! Bryan Harrod began from the beginning up to the George pub in Denby. Hayley and Lisa joined at Winscar to Canon Hall. Kev and Stuart joined around here to Brierley. Dave and Michael popped up in leg 9 and continued to Haigh. My uncle Andy did the last section in the dark with me from Brierly to Elsecar. A few other supporters popped up along the way and either ran sections or just gave encouragement.
It was a very hot day and I carried my own bag with essential kit, snacks and water then replenished these at the 4 main stops, Wortley, Winscar, Canon Hall and Rabbit Ings.
I followed the majority of the Barnsley Boundary path but used the race routes organised by Penistone Footpath Runners who have recently made some alterations to leg 2.
On the whole it went very well and I was pleased to have completed it in just under 9 hours.
