To put it simply, I just sent it.
Was in the middle of completing the second round of my double single-season 48 NH 4,000 footers and had been feeling pretty burnt out. Had spent countless days since June 21st trying to pack in as many peaks as possible and for some reason Carrigain had been giving me a hard time in the second round. After having to turn back due to bad weather twice the prior week, the feelings going into this were a mix of exhaustion, a little defeat, and a lot of determination to get it this time around.
I wasn't aiming for an FKT, nor did I know what the current FKT was. I was focused on the bigger picture, the double single-season. I am actually just posting this now because someone pointed it out after seeing it on Strava a couple days ago.
When I got on trail that morning, for whatever reason, I found my fire. The conditions were ok, but not the best for a view like Signal Ridge has to offer has on a clear day. I was tired and had been here multiple times in the last few weeks, so I'm honestly not sure what all the sudden kicked me into gear. Nonetheless, I pushed myself and was aware that I was making seriously good time which kept me in that mode the whole way.
At the summit and then when I got back to the car, I just felt pure satisfaction. I felt that I could finish what I set out to do that summer season, which had been wavering a bit prior to this run. Long story short, I did just that a few weeks later. Double single-season NH 48, check! Thanks Carrigain.
