Sue Lord and Emma Hooper’s Limestone Link Self-Supported FTK Report

A beautiful sunny morning, we set off from at Cold Ashton at 8.21am. Things almost went south around one mile in, when Sue’s foot fell down a badger hole, but luckily nothing was badly twisted apart from some sunglasses.

The weather was as varied as the terrain as we continued round, with bouts of rain, wind and sun all politely taking turns. Our first rest stop was at the Angelfish cafe at Dundas, where a slab of ginger cake weighing more than my pack and a picturesque ice cream cone were consumed and water bottles refilled.

The miles continued to tumble/stumble by in valleys and hills, bracken and bramble, mud and stones as we navigated barbed wire, frisky bulls, pregnant sheep and lots of jelly beans. A glorious high point was atop a hill with a glittering view all the way across to Split Rock Battery island (I think?!). A momentarily low point was a locked church toilet.

Overall it was a beautiful and really interesting route, with the challenges always changing, keeping us awake. We highly recommend it! (Though maybe not in winter, when we suspect it would be very muddy… .)
