After walking the Portuguese Camino de Santiago from Lisbon to Santiago with a pack that was far heavier than it needed to be, I made a very intentional decision to approach the Camino de Finisterre differently. For the final section from Santiago to Finisterre, I stripped everything back and walked with a super minimalist setup, carrying little more than water and snacks and staying in private accommodation so I didn’t need a towel or sleeping bag.
I completed the Santiago to Finisterre section over three days, with two long days and one short day (35.9km, 41.09km, 17.42km)
On my final day, I could have finished by mid-morning, but instead I stopped in Finisterre for a lunchtime swim in the ocean, followed by a 12-course lunch at a Michelin-star restaurant. I then resumed my walk so that I arrived at the lighthouse just before sunset. It felt really good to me to end my Camino at the ocean.
Of the 31 days I walked on this Camino, the Santiago to Finisterre section stands out as the most beautiful and memorable. So glad I made the decision to add it on.
