Old, slow and under-trained but I said if there was no women's time on this by my birthday I would go run it. I was hoping for a 50 miler (or at least 50k) for my 50th but injuries prevented getting more miles before this. Luckily it was a cool and windy day and not like the sunny and nearly 80 degrees we had been having. I started at the fire tower and ran counter clockwise, doing the Sycamore loop first. Streams were full so I was planning to just collect and filter water but I didn't run out until 3.5 miles from the end so didn't even need to. Trails to the north of the road are much nicer than those to the south, perhaps less horse traffic or just better graded. Some of the trails south of the road had been resurfaced last year with gravel which was an odd feel for a wilderness area but improvement from the chewed up horse trails in other sections. My long suffering ankle reminded me that I am, in fact, 50 years old and the whole second half reminded me that I was, in fact, under-trained but overall a great way to spend a birthday.
