Breithorn is one of the more popular peaks to climb from Zermatt. Most people, however, take the cable car up, which shortens the climb significantly. Thus, it was a very fun challenge to climb the mountain from town. I brought 1L water and some calories. It was chilly starting out in the morning, which led me to pack more layers than I ended up needing. I opted to take my Kahtoola crampons rather than microspikes because I wanted to feel more confident on the steep snow slopes. Even though they weigh significantly more, I am glad I brought these because the snow conditions had deteriorated even over the course of two days. It was a little windy on the final summit ridge, but a beautiful day overall. I had to hug the ski resort side of the glacier, which added a bit of distance to the gpx track that I was following. I was also not feeling the most acclimated, so this time definitely goes faster!
