Pyramid Peak is one of my favorite 14er climbs in Colorado. You just can't beat those views of the Bells! It was a cloudy and overcast morning, which helped to keep the temps a bit cooler, but made route-finding up top a little trickier. I maintained a steady, sustainable pace all the way up the trail, through the amphitheater, and up the steep scree to the ridgeline. From there, my pace/ effort level slowed significantly. The rock was super wet and slick from all the rain the day prior so I decided to be conservative through the Class 4 scramble. Passed a party of two and met another party of two on the summit (nice seeing you Eric!). Snapped a couple photos and chatted for a minute before heading down. No views of the Bells and no goats this day. I'm glad I decided to play it safe, but I know I could definitely shave off quite a bit of time if I could run the scramble in dry conditions. I think early season when there is still a bit of snow lingering in the amphitheater would be the perfect time to pursue this FKT. Put spikes on and you could absolutely fly though that section! Nobody steal my idea ;) I will definitely be back to get this closer to 2:40-2:50 RT.
