I started my FKT run a few seconds after midnight on the north end of the route just south of the Ocean City Inlet in Ocean City, MD. To access the remote starting location, I kayaked across the bay with a friend who was in a separate boat whose soul purpose was to tow my kayak back after I took off. I carried all water, fuel and clothing necessary to cover the distance as well as warm cloths in case of cold weather, headlamp with a back up etc. The run went smooth, temperatures were perfect and I hit the tide just right so I had a flat hard running surface most of the way. A friend of mine whom I coordinated with before hand was waiting for me at the bottom to take the picture of me at the spotting tower on the south end for proof that I indeed finished the route at that exact location. This was my fourth time running this route but the first time obviously officially submitting the effort.
