This was my second attempt after first tackling the route in July last year. Running it a month earlier didn’t seem to make it any cooler than last year, but this time we managed to get it over the line.
I absolutely could not have done this without the unwavering support of my partner, who has selflessly sacrificed his holiday time to driving slowly along rural Canadian roads trying to keep me from over-heating (not once, but twice!). I have never been so glad to see an icy can of coke perched in the fork of a tree!
I’m incredibly lucky to be surrounded by an amazing team of people who never question my desire to chase the fire in my belly. Heartfelt thanks to my running coach Brenton, my strength coach Reneigh, Luke and Egert for keeping my body in one piece, and my nutrition ninja Gaby for fuelling the fire.
A very special thank you to Michelle Leduc, who not only offered guidance and support on the day, but also generously shared her time and advice when a complete stranger from Australia reached out to ask about running the Cataraqui Trail. I admire her not only for her athletic achievements but also for her genuine sportsmanship and kindness.
And finally, this one was for my lion-hearted mom—with me in every step.
