On Saturday 22/04/2023 I set out from Chesterfield to complete the Cuckoo Way. My attempt was unsupported, so I carried all food and water with me to get to the end at West Stockwith. This made for a heavy rucksack at around 6.5kg but would obviously decease throughout the day.
I set off from Chesterfield at 5 am and finished in West Stockwith at around 8 pm. The section around Killamarsh was the most challenging as the canal no longer exists there and has houses built where it once stood. The ground either side of that area was very boggy due to the recent wet weather and really slowed me down, I jogged as much as possible when the ground firmed up to try and gain some lost time back.
The weather remained kind throughout the day, despite a slightly damp start. All in all it was an enjoyable day, albeit a very challenging one.
