Thanks to Adam Arguello for creating the FKT route and dropping a solid time.
I did an unsupported recon/attempt of the Mount Taylor route on July 25, 2025. I ran the first 13 miles before feeling the effects of altitude at ~9,500 feet above sea level. I slowed to hike and reached the summit a little before the 3:30 mark. I hiked most of the return leg, and my hamstrings were cooked. Finished in 7:56:20.
Missed one turn and added some detour distance on the way up; the trail is mostly clear but there are some branches and turns that require navigating using the gpx file.
Unsupported style: No pacers. Ran with running vest, 1.5L of water, and a bag of Oreos. I found what I think was a PVC water spigot for cattle around Mile 10 along the trail. Not sure how reliable that is, but I topped off on the return leg (Mile 20)
