An excellent day out.
The first section from Exmouth to Woodbury Castle was fine except for the short road section which was scary as traffic was moving quite fast.
The second section from Woodbury to Aylesbeare was also good. We had water stashed in Joney's cross so it was good to take a minute to refresh and hydrate at the top of this climb.
Aylesbeare Common to Sidbury was fine. The climb up to fire beacon was hard - as always, but we were treated to a trio of dear playing in the field which took the edge off. We also stopped and enjoyed the view from Whitecross car park as we changed socks before heading down into Sidbury. We also bought another bottle of water in Sidbury - just catching Drew's grocery store before they shut.
Sidbury to Farway was tough. We pushed hard to make it up Harcombe hill before the dark set, which was good though and the woodland from there to Farway was pleasant. Another sock change her set us up for the next section.
Church Green to Colyton was very difficult. fatigue had hit by now and the wet terrain was making running difficult and giving us some foot issues.
Colyton was a definite low point despite making it to our final water drop bag. We missed the shop closing time by 15 mins so were denied a treat and then a faulty headtorch battery caused a panic until we found a spare. We re-grouped and set off for the final stint. This was the toughest section and the wet, boggy fields were slow and laborious, however, we got each other through and finally made it in 13 hrs ish.
Not fast but definitely a great adventure
