An early start 4:45am saw cold temperatures greet me in darkness of Maitland Bay carpark. I set off alone for the first few KMs before Geoff Arnold found me on his bike and kept me company for the next 10-12kms upon which Cody Bardsley was there ready to take on the Great North Walk section. Unfortunately I managed to drop Cody 5kms in and never saw him again. I got to Mooney Mooney in good time and the family was there for the first aid station, quick refill and hugs and kisses to the kids and I was on my way to somersby by myself. At Somersby my Dad was there for another refill. 54kms in now and with a lot of the technical stuff behind me, came the dread 25ish km mostly road section. I got my head down and just banged out a good rhythm and picked up Zac Bissett at Strickland state Forest, and he stayed with me till the end. This is where Geoff Arnold and Dom Perry came out and basically crewed the rest of the way home. Jason Stafford came out on a bike for a few KMs through Erina and the back of Kincumba mountain. I got to Bouddi in good time and knew I had enough time and I along with Zac, Geoff and Dom made our way through the beautiful Bouddi national Park towards the finish. I got to the top of the stairs and my whole family was there cheering me on, which was awesome.
