Report
Set out from Grasso Park in Superior, Colorado and followed the Coal Creek Trail for the next 14 miles north passing through Louisville and Lafayette en route to Erie. Reached the trail terminus at Reliance Park right on the two-hour mark then turned around.
Heat index reached 103 and, despite having plenty of cold water (refilled at Reliance Park's public fountain), I badly overheated on the back half. Heart rate spiked from 145 to 180bpm and felt lightheaded so chilled in the creek and in the shade until heart rate came down and dizziness passed. Aim of a sub 4-hour out & back was obviously dashed but was glad to dodge a sun stroke.
Will come back and run Coal Creek Trail again soon so I can give a full effort start to finish!
