Our attempt started in the late morning under perfect conditions, with just the two of us: Baptiste and me (Guillaume). We carried all of our food and equipment from start to finish and completed the route entirely unsupported. The only place where we took on water from a hut was at the Wildhornhütte, where we refilled with approximately 1.5 liters. Besides that, we stopped three times at mountain streams to refill our soft flasks with fresh water.
Overall, we found the route much more demanding than we had anticipated. Based on the existing FKT and the GPX track, we expected to have a comfortable margin. However, the technical nature of the terrain - especially the descents - made maintaining a high pace far more difficult than expected.
We also encountered an issue with the GPX track. On two occasions, it led us away from the marked trail and into boulder fields instead of following the actual hiking path. To document these discrepancies, we took pictures of us on the trail. We also recorded two short videos at the locations where the GPX diverged from the trail, but we haven't published them on facebook or youtube. If you want us to provide you with these documents, please let me know.
As the day went on, it became clear that the record would be much closer than we had imagined. We had to push hard during the final descent, which was wet and slippery, in order to finish just a few minutes ahead of the previous FKT. Crossing the finish line was incredibly satisfying, but also left us with even more respect for the previous record holder and the impressive time they had set on such a demanding course.
Throughout the entire effort, we remained together from start to finish. We received no outside assistance, no food or drink from anyone, and only crossed paths with hikers we did not know.
After finishing, we celebrated the best possible way: with a refreshing swim in the river, followed by a few well-earned snacks on the drive home.
