On the 1st-2nd of May there was a virtual "Leukemia Charity Run" - so we decided to go for a long run. Of course the weather forecast was rain, rain and maybe even some hail - so we wanted to stay out of the mountains and ended up attacking the FKT around lake of Zürich!
We started with only a little bit of rain and with high spirits at around 9 o'clock in the morning, from Bürkliplatz in clockwise direction. The pace was faster than planned from the beginning on - we wanted to be careful. However, the route is flat and straight (surprise) and why slow down if it rolls nicely? We came closer and closer to Rapperswil and were still keeping up the pace quite well, even getting slightly faster. We had gels and bars as well as some water with us - we refilled the water once at a fountain. Soon the weather started to get better - a bit of sun and perfect running temperature! Unfortunately this was the calm before the storm, around Horgen it started to rain cats and dogs. We were drenched in seconds and running anyway had gotten a lot harder from 50k on, so we were not very happy to have to deal with the cold as well. However, the will to finish fast was growing even stronger with the rain and we could increase the pace by some seconds again! For the last kilometer the rain stopped again and the sun came out to see us cross the finish line :)
The route follows big streets in quite some places, but the view over the lake is very nice! The nicest part in our opinion is from Rapperswil to Horgen.
