I started at 5am to hopefully get up into the forest before it got hot - and then after maybe 40 minutes my headtorch died. Everything was a lot slower going than I had thought, but there were many moments that I enjoyed fully - climbing up above La Laja, an old man walking his dog who greeted me with a big smile, sunlight filtering through the fog in the forest, the whole forest in general really, the flowers on the western side of the island, a cool breeze coming over the endless plateau of La Mérica, and finally dipping into the cool water at the beach. There were also many moments where I wanted to quit, things got hard in many different ways, but I am very glad I kept going.
I picked up water at the Ermita de Lourdes and at the Restaurant Victoria in El Cercado. Food I carried with me all the way.
