Picked a really good day to run this on labor day weekend, as it wasn't too hot and overcast for most of the day, with two days to recover afterwards. Also did it unsupported since there are public water fountains along the way that I mapped out and can be seen in my GPX tracks. My gear: two bananas, an orange, two packs of clif bar green apple shot blocks, a half pack of caffeine orange blocks, some caffeine gummies, two 500 ml flasks, pack of liquid IV powder (no sugar), shades (luckily overcast), a windbreaker I didn’t use, buff, hat, phone and keys. A few notes on parts of the route, which I preplanned using Coros app, but ended up having a couple mishaps. Some areas I planned were quite rough, due to a combination of a recent storm, some not real trails that were overgrown, or just not well maintained. Especially after crossing into Virginia before the Mount Vernon trail (I lost track of the trail which DOES exist as I met a few backpackers, but parts of it were impossible or not matching up to the route on my watch. Regardless, I tried to find the real trail a couple of times but ended up having to hug the highway as it eventually does that anyways until the Key Bridge. Also, after the Gaylord convention center, the "Oxon Hill Farm Road" is labeled on maps but is unmaintained, I was basically running in overgrown grass and got pretty scratched up. I felt fine until mile 30 ish then nausea as usual. Less public water fountains in the last third of the run as well. Also accidentally cut a tiny bit of the Eastern corner because I wasn't paying attention right after filling up my water at a public water fountain. Was able to finish strong though and ran the last six ish miles after that. Afterwards, went to a CVS, bought two electrolyte drinks and immediately threw up after chugging one. Felt better then took public transit to go eat tacos at Apapacho at La Cosecha. Overall 10/10 day.
