I took the Metro North to Philipse Manor and walked about a mile to the beginning of Broadway in Sleepy Hollow, NY. I then started my watch and began the run in the late morning. I carried a Salomon pack with about 2.5 L of water and various food items.
I refilled water at public fountains twice, first in Van Cortland Park and second on the corner of Central Park at Columbus Circle. Around 28.5 miles in, I used the bathroom at Starbucks, which was unlocked to the public, but I did not purchase anything there.
The beginning of the route had some traffic, but I could run without stopping at lights for longer periods. The suburbs were quiet but had occasional shopping and business centers. Once I got into Yonkers, the street got more crowded. At one point, I got briefly lost and diverged from Broadway for a few streets but met back up with the road once I realized. The Bronx section of the route was a tad sketchy, but I felt okay in broad daylight. Seeing a small glimpse of the Manhattan skyline in the distance was super cool as I returned to the city.
I took walk breaks every few miles to save my legs and slowed down a lot once I got into Manhattan due to traffic. Crossing the bridge from the Bronx into Manhattan was neat but also a bit wild to know I still had a half marathon to go. Going through the Upper West Side was relatively calm, but once I got below 60th Street, it was stop-and-start due to the lights and the massive amount of tourists.
I continued through the busy parts of downtown and finally made it to Houston Street, knowing I only had about a mile and a half to go. Once I saw the bull, I made my way to the southernmost Broadway sign and ended my run. It was a cool route, especially being a one-way path accessible by public transit, but very noisy.
