Overview

We completed the full GR131 crossing of Lanzarote as a mixed self supported pair. The route was recorded on a single, uninterrupted activity using a Garmin Fenix 6S Pro. The total elapsed time of 30:05:48 includes all stops, breaks, transport used as part of our self supported logistics plan, and the overnight rest.

Logistics and Break

We followed a self supported strategy, carrying our own gear and managing water and food through public sources or commercial stops along the route. All movements outside the main line of the route were made only to access services.

We reached Montaña Blanca village on 22 November at 13:53 and stopped at the Montaña Blanca bus stop (Line L32, Colegio Montaña Blanca). This was our planned long break. We ate there, then used a short public bus journey to reach our pre booked self supported accommodation in Guime.

Later that evening we used another short bus trip to a nearby restaurant for food, then returned to the accommodation. My watch was placed on charge during this time. Helen kept her watch on, so her Connect file includes the short bus journey to the accommodation. No part of these transfers assisted our forward progress along the GR131 route, and we resumed the track exactly where we stopped.

We restarted at the same Montaña Blanca bus stop on 23 November at 09:25, continuing south to complete the route.

Route Details

From Orzola we followed the signed GR131 trail through the island’s central spine. Along the way we passed through several villages where we stopped briefly to refill water and buy food. These included:

  • Haría

  • Teguise

  • San Bartolomé

  • Yaiza

All resupply points were public and available to anyone.

Weather conditions were dry with steady wind. Terrain was a mix of volcanic gravel, hard packed dirt and stone paths. Navigation was straightforward due to clear GR131 markings, supported by GPS.

Completion

We reached Playa Blanca on 23 November at 13:47:48, stopping the activity at the GR131 finish marker. The recorded total elapsed time is 30:05:48.
