I began this race on Friday 27th May at 1500 from Aviemore following the East Highland Way route. This route is not very well waymarked and relied upon using gpx. Once I reached Fortwilliam on Saturday 28th, I stopped for a quick bite to eat, a change of socks, shoes and t-shirt and carried on via the West Highland Way route from Fortwilliam to Milngarvie. This route is very well marked.
The run itself had checkpoints throughout and various places where I could pick up drop bags, however, I was also supported by my wife along the way, getting much needed calippo lollies from the Great Glen Cafe and a brioch bacon and egg bap when I got to Balmaha.
I never intended to win the race or get a fast time, but I did. I left the Garmin running throughout so that all stops were included in the time and ensured that I didn't miss any of the trail.
It wasn't an easy run by any means, tough in places and mentally and physical challenging the further I got in. Grit, determination and kindness from people walking the route helped keep me going.
