Great Conditions. Kept my eyes on the weather and June 1st was cool and overcast and ground flora was not covering the trail yet. Strong time previously set by Ben Nephew. Cool to see the back and forth he had with Josh Burns. Having trekked the trail many times, and attempting to beat Ben's time once before, I knew what I was getting into and set out with aggressive shoes, one piece of gum, a container of maple syrup, and a couple handheld bottles, refilling one of them at a trickle out of a rock halfway up Westkill. There is a reliable spring on Plateau (I usually stop, but did not for this FKT effort), and the water trickle up Westkill is less reliable and varies with the air pressure and drought status. This trail is epic for everyone at any speed. Good luck to you all!
