This was the first official supported attempt at "The Ranger" District Traverse. Started at 6:30AM at Matney Knob TH in Norfork, AR and proceeded South to the Sylamore TH at Allison, AR. The Ozark Highlands Trail- Sylamore Section was pretty rough in stretches with noxious blackberries bush, briars and grass taller than my shoulders...typically the trail is in much better shape after the Fall maintenance efforts. Once I reached the intersection of the OHT & Sylamore Extension at Cripple Turkey TH, conditions improved dramatically and was able to find a better rhythm. The USFS does a fantastic job of keeping up with the Sylamore Extension and Sylamore Trail.
Rusty Harvey joined me for some early miles in the dark and Kevin Horton supported me the whole day. Kevin is also working on a short film that will showcase some of the beauty of the Sylamore Ranger District and hopefully offer up some beta for those that look to enjoy this great network of trails.
