Our first FKT attempt, and one that was completely unplanned! After spotting the Polden Way on the map while looking for a route close to home, we decided to give it a go. We soon discovered that it was an established FKT route, with no mixed-gender teams having attempted it previously.
Overall, it’s a beautiful route with a great variety of terrain and plenty of elevation changes to keep things interesting. There are lots of viewpoints and points of interest along the way, making it an enjoyable route to explore.
We started at around 9:30am in an attempt to avoid the worst of the peak heat. There are plenty of shaded sections through the woodland, which provided some welcome relief, although there was very little breeze throughout the day, making the conditions feel warmer than expected.
