Beautiful summer day running ridgelines. Started off on the wrong foot by blowing right past the Keyhole Trail turnoff and had to back track. The boulder slog at the end of the Keyhole Trail (where you gain the majority of your elevtion) was beautifully shaded by Esmeralda Peak and cooled by residual snow which was a treat. Snow on the route made glissading fun and offered fast travel (a week earlier might have been perfect) as well as covered the glaciers. Loose rock definitely presents a hazard on this one and you'd want snow in the gullies to hold it all together but none of the climbing is especially exposed.
I didn't bring an ice axe or crampons and felt like that was the right choice for me. I would have used the axe on the final climb up Grays (50m or less) but otherwise I doubt I would have used it. Lots of water available meant I only needed a belt and refilled several times enroute.
I really blew the descent (I think) and ended up thrashing in the woods and downclimbing small cliffs. I think it's probably marginally better to follow the gully below Cosmic and then cut skier's right but I don't know. There's no trail in there either and it's all bushwhacking either way, that route might just be less steep.
