We spent a couple of night at ‘two Styx’ at point lookout
So leaving day presented a chance to do this solo. I’ve done before as multi day hikes and once as a run but with a group. Keen to see if I could get it done quicker
The New England wilderness walk spent a while overgrown but National parks have recently been doing a good job clearing which made this much easier
After packing the car, started running 9.30am from the very top 1563m along lyrebird walk (this is a bit further than the official New England wilderness walk which starts at Robinson knob trail head.
Rainy and up in a cloud so no views and slippery on the top of the plateau
Took half hour to get to the junction with Robinsons knob trail. About 9.5km turn left to head down the ridge.
Hit Sunday creek after the long descent at about 1:45 mark
Next 5km is slow wading through the river. The rain made things a bit slower here as there was no real way to predict which rocks would be safe vs slippery. Hit the campsite 2:45 elapsed
Then it gets easier as you follow the old farm roads back to the end of darkwood road.
