Last year I completed this FKT in not ideal conditions. Rocks gets slippery when wet! So I actually went back to improve my time later last year, and I sprained my ankle. It was bad. This is a very technical route. It isn't overly hilly, but more like an obstacle course in some sections. I wanted redemption, but I only wanted to do it in the right conditions. The time was now. No rain days prior and a cool morning. My main goal was to not hurt myself. My next goal was to improve my time as much as possible. I got started at 6:25 AM. I tried to take advantage of some of the few, smoother sections. The plan was to work any uphills hard and be safe on any descents or crazy rocky sections. It went very well overall. I thought I could best my time by a little more, but I should be happy with taking off over 3 minutes. I also didn't hurt myself! I did bang my knee hard on a rock, but that's it. I carried no water of food for this one. I kept telling myself to concentrate. My mind has a tendency to wander and you don't want to lose focus at all in this park. Overall, I am very happy. Happy enough to not see myself doing this one again. I will next time go slow and enjoy the beautiful views up on the cliffs. Northern Bruce Peninsula is a very special place to me and I always love getting back there! I already want to go back!
