A coolish day in the Blue Mountains although, the sun was out in blue skies. I took the wrong cap with me, a visor instead of a full cap, although only out in the sun for 90 minutes, my head paid the price. Please remember to use sun cream and covering up is the best method of sun protection. Lockley's Pylon trail head can be found on Mount Hay road, parking can be a bit tricky, get there early. Jamie and I started just before 1000hrs and made our way up the single technical trail past 'The Pinnacles' to the right. The trail undulates and you can see fire impact in the trees from the 2019/2020 bush fires. Passing over Mount Stead the trail descends slightly onto what looks like an alpine meadow, no trees but short grasses with flowers, the trail winds it's way across to Lockley's Pylon which is a buttress in the distance. We climbed the trail to the left of the Pylon and got to the top where the cairn is located. Astounding views of Grose Valley all around and the Fortress Creek Waterfall was in full flow - spectacular. We then made our way back along the same trail is this route is an out and back. We did not travel fast as there was so much to look at - it's all in the journey as they say. We returned to the trail head in about 90 minutes.
This is one of the best trails I have run in the Blue Mountains, the scenery is magic.
