work was slow so I had some free time this week. I needed the Vermont 4000 footers for my October grid so I figured I'd go for the FKT. I left the house around 4:20 am and got to Killington around 6:30. At 6:45 I was off using the ski trails out and back finishing the 4.74 miles in 1 hour 44 seconds. I waisted no time and making the hour drive to sugarbush with a gas stop along the way since the gas station I stopped at early in the morning were shut off. I hustled up the ski trails up to Lincoln peak then did the out and back to Abraham. I was making good time so I kept pushing to Ellen. at Ellen I back tracked to another ski trail and descended finishing the 10.91 miles in 2 hours and 42 minutes. I was then off to the Camels Hump via the Burrows trail getting the last parking spot. My legs were feeling it some at this point so I power hiked up. On the descent my calves wanted to cramp up but I got through finishing the 4.55 miles (which tracked slightly shorter then usual) in 1 hour 26 minutes. It was another hour long drive to Mansfield taking the long trail south bound up. I had about an hour and 15 minutes to summit at this point. The trail was a leafy river which made me glad I was finishing here since it would have been a lot slower of a hike then usual if I had to complete the hole hike on the clock. The ascent was tough for me. my legs and knees kept wanting to seize up so I had to keep adjusting my pace without slowing down to much. I managed to summit in 1 hour 7 minutes even. elapsed time on the day was 9:16:44 setting a new FKT by 9 minutes and 2 seconds. 22.65 miles of hiking and 105.95 miles of driving.
