Last September (2020), after numerous scouting runs, I ran the entire Skyline Trail from south to north in a single push (self-supported with a water stash) setting the self-supported FKT on the trail. It was a phenomenal experience and I wanted to do it in a better style of being unsupported.
Since I knew the trail pretty well after that run, and while it was fresh in my memory, I went to run it north to south, unsupported this time. Interestingly, my time for the north to south was 3 minutes slower (25:16:40) despite this direction being a net downhill. Turns out navigating by headlamp in the trees on the southern end is difficult & slow. Also, this was much earlier in the year and my fitness likely wasn't where it should have been for such an endeavor.
Major thanks to Allison for driving four hours to leave my car at the southern trailhead and to Tom for starting the run with me and running in five miles at the end to finish with me.
