This is a Strava route I made after trimming up Marcy's out and backs for water and wrong turn she mentions: https://www.strava.com/routes/16849731
I ran the route unsupported. Though, after doing so, this route is quite conducive to the runner who wants to self-support.
Trip report link: https://beyondfourwalls.life/2019/01/22/bay-to-ridge-fkt-attempt/
I started at 10:15 AM.
I was rolling out the miles (9:04, 7:57, 8:13, 8:22…) just enjoying how good I felt and attempting to not take *all* the wrong turns, as I will not lie the start of this FKT route by Marcy…it keeps you on your toes!
at about mile, 16-17 is when it started going south, I should have been able to run 8-9s here and all I could muster was a 10:19…I knew trouble was coming.
I managed to wrangle out a sub 3hr ascent time (2:55:39)
but then I rode the struggle bus all the way down…(this means I ran but it hurt…ok, more like walked)
some 4hr and minutes I don’t want to think about I made it back down after two major and one minor wrong turns.
All in All, I think the route is an acceptable challenge for someone nearby looking for an unusual FKT that offers you the stresses of urban navigation paired with the usual trail “wrong turn” opportunities in a pleasant balance.
I will update as I try some of the other established routes in the area. maybe I will even do a comparison chart.
and miles to go before I sleep,
Jason
Ascent went in 2:55:39 for those interested in a one way mark to beat.
