This was an unsupported solo adventure run, because I always wanted to try to go from Bear Lake to Grand Lake and back. Definitely a casual effort, but I didn't see any other FKTs submitted for the out and back version of this route. I had a vest full of nutrition and hydration, along with a water filter, jacket/gloves, etc. I used an old Suunto watch, which provided good gps data but not HR, etc. I parked at the Bear Lake trailhead and started around 6:30am. It started off cool, but quickly started warming up. When I got to Grand Lake, I took a longer break to sit down and cool off before heading back up the North Inlet Trail toward Flattop Mountain. It turned into a really warm day so I took plenty of breaks including to filter water. I took it easy back to the car to complete a long day!
There is obviously a lot of room to improve on this time, and I look forward to seeing somebody give this a strong push to beat it by hopefully several hours!
