In 2016 I did the Continental Divide Trail in less than 80 days. That year I backpacked nearly 8,000 miles and followed the official fire reroutes and trail organization recommendations. I noticed that the Continental Divide Trail had been added to the FKTs, so I wanted to throw this out as a mark to best and shoot for. I wrote a blog post about each day of my trip that can be found here: https://freeoutside.com/thru-hiking-journals/calendar-triple-crown/cale… and also received press that can be seen at the links below. Also, this adventure became part 3 of my book: https://www.amazon.com/Free-Outside-Trek-Against-Distance/dp/1733487506
The precedent of this trail should be set at following the official reroutes as definite by the CDT Coalition simply because I don't forsee a successful attempt at completing this entire trail moving forward in which fires do not impact the official route. It is a beautiful trail and I had the opportunity to experience moose, grizzly, black bear, tarantula, elk, mosquitos, and numerous hikers and backpackers ranging across all five states the route traverses.
