After a year and a half of thinking about it, I took advantage of this beautiful, sunny January morning for an attempt at the Regicides FKT. The course was near perfect, with only a handful of mud crossings. The autumn leaves have started breaking down, so the foot placements weren't as difficult. I fell once when I was trying to take off my gloves and tuck them into my pants (of course). But it wasn't a very technical section and I landed in the push-up position, so nothing injured. As I neared the end of the trail, I was watching my stopwatch and looking up at the last climb, thinking there was no way I'd make the FKT. But by some miracle, my burning legs got me to the top in 1:05:50, just 9 seconds under Neil's N2S time, and 3:15 under his S2N time. It's worth pointing out however, that he did both on the same out-and-back, and he could obviously destroy my one way time. Respect! But I'll take what I can get! Thanks so much to Alex for warming up with me on the way to the start line, and then driving to the finish to meet me. NOTE: my time of 1:05:50 was from the gap in the rock wall at the start of the Regicides at the Southern overlook, to the tree with the Quinnipiac Trail sign.
