Weather/Conditions: I ran the route the day after a heavy rainfall and a couple sections of the mountain bike trail were muddier than expected and even flooded, which just made for slow going at times. I advise future attempts should follow sunny days so the trail remains firm and shoes somewhat dry.
Timing: I advise attempting the route in fall (foliage colors are striking) or in the winter (firm ground, low grasses, wide paths). In the spring and summer, the tall grasses along the flood control dyke path(s) do not get mowed to support the monarch butterfly habitat.
Notes of Interest: Be on the lookout for the handful of carved stone (markers) from the 1940s along both Northwest "Road" (dirt trail) and Newton Brainard "Road" (crushed gravel trail) noting when the woodlands were designated conservation lands. There is also a view of Hartford's skyline on the back side of Reservoir 6.
