I had an amazing adventure, with breathtaking views all the way from the Arctic Ocean, through the tundra, over the Brooks range, and across the Yukon River. I was awed by the animals: 5 grizzlies, 5 musk ox, 6 caribou, a herd of Dall sheep, 2 moose, 2 porcupines, and countless new birds and insects. I’m grateful for my outstanding crew, Steph & Daniel, and I’m proud that we pulled this off in a minimalist way - with a small car, tent, and camp stove. I met my crew every 5-7 miles throughout the middle of the day, with longer 10+ mile intervals at the start & end while they broke down & set up camp. At all times, I carried a pack with a can of bear spray, 1-2 liters of water, enough food for 10-15 miles, and extra warm clothes. But it was muddy and cold. And did I mention that it was muddy? And there was a lot of MUD!
