The Brisbane Water Bush Bash is an annual club run in early January and we started out as a group before dawn, getting up to Meditation Rock high above the water on the Koolewong Firetrails for a beautiful sunrise. From there it is a slip and slide down an increduibly steep trail to where our clubmates were waiting to feed us water and lollies on the Woy Woy waterfront. Some people did not stop and other of us took a breather and visited the toilet so everybody became rather spread out after that point. I thought that I had had a longer "comfort break" than the guys so carried on alone hoping to catch up with them at some point, but actually never saw them again. A memorable trail was one across the top of Bouddi National Park from the maitland Bay carpark as the noise from the cicadas was so loud that you caould hardly hear yourself think!

A short section of the old route has been closed off by a landowner but a new single track route has been created to bypass this bit, and it makes for a lovely detour. A friend came to join me for the last section of the run over Kincumber Mountain and Rumbelara, which made the last portion of the run so much more enjoyable as we chatted and laughed all the way back to the finish on the Gosford waterfront.
