Having run the 6FT race in the past, when a friend suggested running back to the start again to make it the 12FT, I thought it sounded fun....but how much I swore at her whilst I did it, as the race is net downhill, so the return leg is net uphill!!. Thunder, lightning and rain made for more of an adventure but for most of the day, there was just me, the weather and some roos carrying their joeys out!
I avoided the "high river option" as I did not want to risk a metal bridge when there was lightening around, but this meant I had to swim the river twice, and the current was quite strong.....to add to the "fun" my leg cramped up halfway across on the way back.
The return route starts with a steep climb out of Jenolan (and ends with a killer last km climbing up stairs out of the valley) but there is some lovely running to be had in the middle sections, so although knackering, it was a successful day out!
