Went looking for FKT routes near the Medawisla Lodge and found this route along the AT to White Cap Mtn and back. FKT was 7:58 for 22 mi and 5.5k elevation, decided to give it a shot. Starts by fording a shallow river (went barefoot); then a rooty lower section with gradual climb, runnable; then climb to ridge; then undulating along a beautiful wooded ridgeline trail to White Cap Mtn. Weather was perfect and views from White Cap were spectacular, including Katahdin to the north and many smaller peaks to the south. Spent about 10 mins on cold/windy summit taking pictures. Ran down without incident, crossed the river in my shoes, finished just under 5:10, taking 2:48 off the posted time. Got some nice encouragement from AT hikers on their way to Katahdin. Packed a few additional emergency items for this route; ended up with about twice as much food as I needed; brought 1.8L water with no refills which turned out to be just barely enough. A really fun adventure. Thanks to original FKT holder Evan Kearney for posting the route!
